Air Compressor Functions – Reference

The compressed air can be released as required at a set pressure. Since air compressors differ and have different functions, a Youtube tutorial from the Learn channel on “How an Air Compressor function?’ This video will help you pick the correct air compressor.

Air compressors can be divided into two categories which are positive displacement and dynamic. This article discusses positive displacement compressors. They are used to pump air into a chamber, and then reduce its size.

Positive displacement air compressors are classed further into two categories: reciprocating and rotary compressors. They use reciprocating engines powered by crankshafts to power cylinders as well as pistons. Pistons compress air and increase the density of air while reducing the volume of air, and do not convert it to liquid. To allow cooling, air is compressed at least once the first stage compressor.

During compression, friction generates heat. Water cooling is preferred for multistage compressors. Combining reciprocal air compressors tanks controlled via two-point controllers along with diaphragms for tanks or Rotary compressors may help decrease wear and minimize energy consumption.
